DUBAI – The Chevrolet Camaro Convertible has been awarded the “Muscle Car of the Year 2011” by Evo Middle East, one of the leading auto publications distributed across the region. The award was presented to John Stadwick, the President and Managing Director of General Motors Middle East Operations, by Editor-in-Chief of Evo magazine, Bassam Kronfli.
“We are thrilled with this award and the recognition the Camaro Convertible has received from Evo magazine” said Stadwick.
“The introduction of the convertible strengthens Camaro’s dominant position in the sports segment.” added Stadwick.
Evo Middle East is a monthly magazine for driving enthusiasts, covering the latest and greatest cars on the market from hatchback to sports cars and everything in between.
The jury, which consisted of Bassam Kronfli, Deputy Editor Phill Tromans, publishers Mohammed Aljeda and Phil McGovern, said of their selection for the Camaro Convertible: “We liked the style and presence of the Camaro, the V8 engine and its effortless ability to cruise or light up the rear tires, depending on our mood.
“We were big fans of the Camaro Coupe when it was launched in 2010. Now it’s available without the roof, which means there’s nothing between you and that glorious multi-cylindrical woof. All the better for really soaking up that muscle car feel,” added Kronfli.
The Camaro Convertible has broadened the appeal of the iconic sports car to buyers who are looking for some open-air fun. It is equipped with similar model configurations as the Camaro Coupe. The standard model has a 312-horsepower direct injection V-6 engine delivering 8 L /100km highway while the SS model features the 6.2L V-8 engine producing 426 horsepower.
Additional safety structural reinforcements are designed to improve noise and vibration characteristics, while also contributing to the elimination of cowl/steering wheel shake. They include a hydrofromed tube in the A-pillars, an inner reinforcement bracket in the windshield header, a reinforced front hinge pillar and reinforcements inside the rockers.
The structures of the Camaro Convertible were reinforced to provide coupe-like driving dynamics. The chassis settings were not altered unlike other convertible versions of other coupes.
The top is made of thick, durable canvas and it features acoustical headliner material that provides a quiet, coupe-like ride when the top is up. It also incorporates a glass rear window and rear window defogger.
