Dubai, United Arab EmiratesEmbracing the brand’s professional grade philosophy in every way, GMC’s luxury Crossover Vehicle (CUV), the Acadia is now well-established in the fastest-growing vehicle segment in the Middle East. This sporty, spacious and versatile crossover is a natural extension to GMC’s line-up and brings with it smooth and responsive driving characteristics alongside a comprehensive safety package, all in a sleek, modern design.

Karim Corm, GMC SUV Marketing Manager in the Middle East says of the Acadia: “GMC has always projected the professional grade mantra, and with its smooth lines and athletic temperament, the Acadia is everything you would expect from the brand. With its carefully executed details such as tight tolerances, a tailored wheel-to-body relationship, a range of upscale amenities, exciting colours, and select bright trim, the Acadia has a strong and confident presence.

“The Acadia fits perfectly in our product portfolio, with its inherent traits of space, utility, good looks and performance, and has rightfully become a well established sight in the Middle East.”

Athletic exterior

Athletic styling and design have become synonymous with the Acadia, underscoring GMC’s professional grade philosophy. Polished aluminium roof rails, select bright work and large, prominent headlamps that flank a detailed GMC grille give a sleek and athletic look to the exterior of the Acadia. Meanwhile the latest in projector-beam technology has been used to deliver bright and precise lighting, and this is mounted in houses that have a crystal-clear appearance. Meanwhile, High-Intensity Discharge lamps (HID) are available on the SLT model.

The Acadia’s sporty appearance is maintained with a sleek and aerodynamic tapered roofline, distinctive LED tail lamps and a unique rear spoiler. This athletic feel is further extended with standard 19-inch wheels and tyres. The Acadia has a drag coefficient of just 0.361, thereby reducing wind noise and enhancing fuel efficiency.

New for 2009 is a choice of two completely new exterior colours: Quicksilver Metallic and Silver-green Metallic. Also available is a rear-view camera system, which comes as standard when the SLT or SLE Acadia is ordered with a navigation system; the camera is also available on the Acadia SLE as an option, and is embedded in the rear-view mirror.

Stylish interior

The Acadia’s interior is marked out by its style and refinement. The instrument panel design enhances the feeling of openness in the front-row seats and provides a commanding outward view. This and other interior elements feature high-quality, low-gloss materials and attention to fit, finish and flushness. Additional professional grade features include thick door glass, flat-blade windscreen wipers and strategically placed sound deadening material, which minimises road and wind noise.

Being GMC’s first crossover utility vehicle, the Acadia’s interior is extremely versatile, and features three rows of seating that can be configured to seat up to eight passengers in comfort. The front row features two bucket seats, while the second row is available with either a 60/40-split bench for three passengers, or two captain’s chairs with a centre console. The standard third row layout incorporates a 60/40-split bench seat with room for three; leather seats are optional, while perforated leather heated/cooled front row bucket seats are available on the SLT model. The Smart Slide feature is standard on all second-row configurations and also eases entry to and exit from the third row.

The Acadia offers an abundance of cargo space, which reaches nearly 3,313 litres when the second- and third-row seats are folded. In fact, the Acadia provides a generous 557.9 litres of room behind the third-row seat when it is in the upright position – a capacity many other SUVs cannot come close to matching. Also, Acadia’s second- and third-row seats fold flat for even more load-carrying capacity, and a covered rear convenience centre allows items to be stored out of sight beneath the rear floor.

New engine

The Acadia comes with an even more powerful engine generating 313 hp @ 6300 rpm and 287 Nm @ 4800 rpm for 2009. The 3.6-litre V6 powerplant, with Variable Valve Timing (VVT) and direct fuel injection and Hydra-Matic six-speed automatic transmission is the Acadia’s standard powertrain combination. This unit improves power output, fuel efficiency and towing capacity, and gives a 5 per cent improvement in horsepower over last year’s model.

The engine’s four-cam phasing operation of the variable valve timing system ensures linear delivery of torque across the rpm band, while features such as electronic throttle control deliver crisp, immediate response and feedback.

The electronically controlled Hydra-Matic six-speed automatic transmission is an advanced transmission with clutch-to-clutch shift operation for front- and all-wheel-drive Acadias. Clutch-to-clutch operation allows for reduced complexity and compact packaging.

Advanced technology

Power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering with a column lock comes as standard on the Acadia, although a variable-effort steering option is also available StabiliTrak electronic stability control system with rollover mitigation technology, as well as traction control is standard on all models.

The Acadia also makes full use of anintelligent all-wheel drive system, which provides excellent traction on slippery roads and other driving situations – such as highway intersections– where increased traction can really be felt, and the system works by always delivering a controlled amount of torque to the rear wheels. There is no need for driver intervention; the system automatically decides how much torque to apply and delivers it to the wheels with the best traction.

A wealth of extras

As you would expect with its luxury crossover utility vehicle tag, the Acadia comes with a wide range of useful optional and standard equipment, including heated outside mirrors, a tri-zone heating and air conditioning system, an intermittent rear wiper, ultrasonic parking assist, a power liftgate, an extended-range remote vehicle starting system, a heated windscreen washer fluid, an oversized dual SkyScape sunroof, a DVD entertainment system, and a Bose 5.1 Surround Sound audio system.

The Acadia also offers a segment exclusive head-up display that projects instrument readouts and other features onto the windscreen for easy, eyes-on-the-road reference. This feature is optional on SLT trims.

Assured safety features

As you would expect with any GMC vehicle, the Acadia has been built with safety as a firm priority. As such, it features a comprehensive protection system designed to safeguard passengers before, during and after a crash. The Acadia’s strong structure and four-wheel independent suspension system enhance safety by providing stable ride and handling characteristics. Four-wheel anti-lock brakes, StabiliTrak electronic stability control system – with rollover mitigation technology – and GM’s tyre pressure monitoring system all come as standard.

The Acadia is equipped with six standard air bags: two dual-stage frontal bags, two that are mounted in the first row of seats for the event of side impacts and two more which cover all rows of seating that are mounted in the roof rail. GM’s rollover sensing system complements this safety set-up, and activates the roof rail air bags if sensors determine the event of a rollover. Additionally, first-row positions feature safety-belt pretensioners, which activate at the moment of a crash, taking up any slack in the belt and holding the passengers in place.

Two trim levels are available on the 2009 GMC Acadia: SLE, and SLT. The Acadia can be specified in a wide range of colours: Deep blue metallic, Liquid Silver metallic, Summit White, Red Jewel Tintcoat, Blue Gold Silver Metallic, White Diamond Tricoat, Medium Brown Metallic, Gold Mist Blue, Dark Crimson Metallic, Carbon Black Metallic, Platinum Ice Tricoat and the new Quicksilver Metallic and Silver-green Metallic paints.
